The 28-days rule

Any amount you use for maintenance (tuition fees and living costs) must be in your account for a consecutive period of 28 days. During the 28-day period this amount should not drop below the required amount for even 1 day or you will not meet the Home Office requirements and your application will be refused.

Living Costs

You must have enough money to support yourself while you are studying in the UK. You will need to show £1,265.00 for each month for a total of 9 months. Therefore, you must have a total of (£1,265 * 9 = £11,385.00) for your living costs. This applies only when the location of the study is in London. For outside London the monthly living cost is less than London. It is £1,025 per month

Bank Statement

When applying for a Tier 4 (student visa) application you will need to submit evidence that you have enough funds to cover your tuition fees for the first academic year, as well as your living costs.

Tuition Fee

The tuition fee in the UK depends on many factors.

  • The university you choose
  • Level of higher education you’re enrolled at
  • Length of the programme or course
  • Tuition fees vary between 4 countries that comprise the UK: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Students will normally need to pay a deposit of the total tuition fees in order for the University to issue them with a “Confirmation of acceptance of studies (CAS)”.

Any payments you have made towards your tuition fees must be stated on the CAS, for example, if a student is applying for a visa to study a 1-year master’s course and:

  • Tuition Fees is £10,000
  • Student paid the £5,000 deposit to be issued with a CAS letter.
  • CAS states: Course Fees for the Year: £10,000 & Course Fees Paid so far: £5,000

Therefore, the student must have the remaining £5,000 of the tuition fee in the bank account in addition to the funds for living costs.

Bachelor and Master Courses Duration

The UK traditionally offers three year of undergraduate degrees and one-year masters programmes at its universities.
